Inception and Street Interviews

The A2P campaign was started early in the year 2024, with the need to further spread leprosy awareness. The campaign was designed to integrate social media into the awareness process to have a wider reach and cater to the current generation.

The first phase of the campaign was to get the pulse of people in order to identify the understanding of leprosy within the community. This was achieved through in person street interviews conducting at random in community hubs such as malls and bus stands throughout the country in different districts. The responses received showed that while there is an element of awareness of leprosy within the community, there is still much more to be done to reach the entire nation.

The interviews were then taken to a larger stage at the National Health Exhibition Medicare 2024 held at the BMICH in March. Many people involved in the healthcare system were interviewed as well as the general public attending the exhibition who were given an awareness after being interviewed. Here we see some of the feedback from the people interviewed as well as an idea of certain areas regarding leprosy that were lesser known by the general public.

A2P Awareness Challenge

The second phase of the campaign consists of the A2P challenge, the set up for which consisted of the sharing of information via social media platforms leading up to the official launch of the challenge. Below are the informational videos which are also available on all social media platforms.

The challenge itself consists of participants submerging their hands in ice cold water for a minimum of 45 seconds until numb, thereafter the challenge aspect comes in when they attempt to pick up a toothpick that is placed on a tissue with their thumb and little finger only. Alternatively, if a toothpick is not available a coin can be used as well.
